Good Safety Plan for Concrete Formwork

Good safety plan for concrete formwork is required to make sure that execution of construction project is done without any delay and failure of formwork. There are certain standards must be followed. Let’s discuss which procedure should be followed for good safety plan for concrete formwork.

Supervision and Inspection

Supervisor will supervise that formwork placement, concrete pouring, stripping of formwork is being done properly or not. He will ensure that formwork erection should be done safely as per the design. Any unusual loads have to be eliminated if formwork is not designed for such loads and form designer should be consulted.

Platforms and Access for Workers

Proper platform should be provided for the execution of the works. Safety signs and boards have to be used during the construction so that third person will get to know and stay away from the danger areas. Ladders should have resting or passing platform. During construction of bridge or that kind of structure scaffoldings are also used. To cooperate with each other safe and accessible areas should be provided.

Control of Concreting Practices

Control of concreting is must. Sequence and rate should be followed. To prevent unbalanced form loading in concrete during beam-slab construction, beam is first filled and then slab should be filled equally on both sides. Formwork system can be increased in a column-and-slab structure by concreting the columns at least a day ahead of the slab.

Improving Soil Bearing and Bracing

When scaffolds or forms are placed to the construction site and soil bearing capacity is questionable then can be stabilized by tamping or covered with layer of crushed stone. Because when this forms and scaffolds are manufactured soil bearing capacity is not known and has been taken as per assumption.

Shoring and Reshoring

Shoring and reshoring elements should be avoided as it will support only a small portion of design loads and this forms should be in continuous monitoring to prevent unnecessary damange.
